Cranberry, Brussels Sprouts Detox Salad

saladThis refreshing salad was too good not to share. It was my little delicious dinner last night. I call it my ‘detox’ salad because a lot of the ingredients are actually quite detoxifying and super good for your body.

There is little to no prep time to whip up this yummy meal. So start cooking – and your taste buds will thank you and your hips too!

You will need (for the salad): 6 medium sized Brussels sprouts, 1 wedge iceberg lettuce, 10 almonds, ¼ cup cranberries, ¼ cup cooked quinoa, handful of fresh sprouts and 2 diced green onions.

You will need (for salad dressing): ¼ cup olive oil, ¼ cup apple cider vinegar, 2 tbsp. lemon juice, 1 dash of garlic powder, 1 tsp. of mustard and a dash of salt and pepper.

Simply cut off the end s of the Brussels sprouts (I just discarded the ends in the trash) and chop your tasty greens up nicely with a sharp knife, and place in a bowl.

Chop your lettuce wedge up too and add it to your sprout mixture. Dice your almonds in a food processor (or simply by hand) and add to your bowl. Then one by one layer on your other yummy ingredients:  cooked quinoa, sprouts, cranberries and green onions.

In a separate bowl, mix up your salad dressing components and once they are all mixed up – drizzle it over your awaiting salad. And then – enjoy.

This recipe yields one sizeable salad (double the ingredients for a dinner for two!)

Christ’s Joy – Brewing In Our Souls

May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees. May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous. May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts. – Psalm 119_Joyfulness, may it brew within our souls. In this life, so many people strive for happiness. We seek out hobbies that will ignite our hearts and plan trips to far-off places in order to quench our curiosity.

We figure happiness can be caught in the sights and sounds of something far more attractive and interesting than our everyday lives. But, we miss the joy that comes from the minutes discarded on mundane mornings and typical nights.

We miss the beauty of life. Not the thrill-seeking, adventure prone life; but, the normal obedient one that tends never to get recognition or wide acclaim.

But, child – there is splendor in the diligent routine.

Oh dear heart, like the scripture teaches – our joy comes in the morning. Look to the heavens when you arise and ask for that joy (that only our Maker can give) to fill your lungs and reside in your smile.

Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones, And give thanks to His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning. – Psalm 30:5

You may feel like you are rising to just a typical day; yet, with God – nothing is typical. You, in fact, are atypical. Created with a purpose unlike any other – you can shine even in the most mundane moments.

Let Christ’s strong herbal nature pervade your body. Allow his Holy Spirit to brew within your soul. May he quicken your heart and bestow on your life – the complete joy of the LORD.

The joy of the LORD moves mountains. No longer search for happiness – for it will never satisfy the soul. Like water to the parched tongue is Christ’s joyfulness to a human spirit.

May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees. May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous. May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts. – Psalm 119:171-173

Rejoice in Him. Drink in his security, provision and guidance. Celebrate everyday obedience. You are light to the nations every single day – whether mountain climbing or quietly worshiping.

The Call Of The Trail

BESTThe trail is paved. Though rocky and uneven, it is surprisingly inviting. The winding road beckons you to trot with faith in the clearing up ahead. Mounted on a vehicle of strength, a steady steed, you ride into the distance with sheer anticipation of the events up ahead.

Will you encounter deep darkness or tremble in shivering fear? Or will you garner strength and hold out the sword of the perfect spirit? You will never know unless you gallop forward.

And gallop forward you must. For God does not call us to be complacent. He has called us to be warriors of his passionate truth. Surrounded by thick vines and branches, you see the clearing – and the uncertainty up ahead is great.

However, you know that your feet are equipped with the buckles of his salvation and you are lined with his armor that is impenetrable.

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plan. – Proverbs 16:3

You may fear the enemies in the distance; but, God has already defeated them for you. They are nothing but empty threats lined with hollow souls; so – do not fear!

The LORD has gone ahead of you and displayed his power of utmost greatness. He has established your plan – and that is one of striking triumph!

Ride on, dear seeker. Leave the comfort of the nest and branch out. Search out the beauty that the trail ride can offer your life. For it is when we leave the comfort of the familiar, that we are richly blessed.

I could never resist the call of the trail. – Buffalo Bill

Trust in the provision of the Most High. Answer the call of the trail before your glistening eyes. Take chances that reflect his Almighty Nature. Shine with his great light and be not afraid of the scoffers that try to knock you down.

Suit up. Grip your saber and ride forward – into the great unknown. Breathe in the bounty that Christ offers and brush off the vines that attempt to hinder your path. Look to the light – and rest in the mercies of your Maker’s promises.

When Evil Calls Itself a Martyr

you know the truthOur hearts hurt. They endlessly weep for the evil and destruction that is rampant throughout the world. There is suffering. There is hate and there is violence.

One thing is clear – radical Islamic terrorism is claiming countless lives barbarically. We see this with our very own eyes each and every day.

With depressing news in the press, such as the four Wycliffe Bible translators that were reported dead yesterday and now the many explosions in Brussels that murdered more than thirty innocent people, it is easy to think the evil one is winning. It is easy to believe malevolence has conquered the hearts and minds of men.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” – Ephesians 6:12

“The horse is prepared for the day of battle, But victory belongs to the LORD.” – Proverbs 21:31

With this week being Holy Week, think on the bloodshed of Christ. He died and rose from the grave. He has already displayed the ultimate victory over sin and death.

Stand firm dear Christian. We know that there are those that will hate the light. They do not understand it, and that causes suffering on this callous soil.

You have a heavenly home and a victorious Savior. Evil can call itself a martyr; but, you know the truth. The true Redeemer is the one who hung on a cross with a crown of thorns – and overcame deep death.

The world might be spinning with tears and terror; but our hearts should be steadfast on the cross of Christ. That is life. That is promise. Though arrows and darts might be vaulted at the heart of innocence, evil will not prevail.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

When Control Hinders Our Lives

DESSERTSIt’s a struggle in all human hearts. That raging red fire of control resides in each one of us. We like to try and manage situations and people. However, it’s a futile effort. In the end, we just end up frustrated and bothered.

You see, we are not puppet masters. Our lives cannot be contained by the control we assert over ourselves and other people.

We must put our trust in the one who ultimately should direct our paths – and the paths of others.

Handing over control is monumental. It takes full surrender and self-sacrifice. You are placing your living, breathing life into the hands of another. And, it’s frightening.

Yet this person you are giving full control to is sovereign, good and perfect. He tells us not to fear; for his love casts out all fear.

Breathe a deep sigh of relief. Though you still make decisions (good or bad in your own freewill), you can rest assured that if you trust him and put your life in his hands, he will surely not disappoint and protect you from the enemy’s snare.

“My life is in your hands. My heart is in your keeping. I’m never without hope – not when my future is with you. My life is in your hands, and though I may not see clearly. I will lift my voice and sing – because your love does amazing things. Lord, I know, my life is in your hands.” – Kathy Troccoli

Release control, dear one. It’s in your best interest. Look and rely on the words your LORD has given to you. He will be your shied, your compass, your counselor and friend. You will receive so much peace when you release the reigns on the harness of your life.

“Tell everyone who is discouraged, Be strong and don’t be afraid! God is coming to your rescue…” Isaiah 35:4

Let God lead you into the pastures of his will and his goodness. Praise the LORD along the way.

You will not always feel comfortable on this journey; but, that heart will no longer fret. For you no longer lead your life, God the Father does – and he is leading you into his light.

When Ordinary People are Extraordinary!

God specializes in ordinary Christians who believe in an extraordinary God. – Michael YoussefFace it – if you have entrusted your life to the King of Kings, you are extraordinary! God, himself, has called you chosen, dearly loved and blessed.

Though you might think you are a puddle jumper, you are a water walker – fully equipped with all good gifts to shine the light of the LORD.

Doesn’t this make you want to jump for joy!

Though the world may see you as an ordinary human being, you are quite the opposite. You have been bought with a price (an immeasurable one). And the Christ’s blood has made you just exquisite.

God specializes in ordinary Christians who believe in an extraordinary God. – Michael Youssef

You are incredible because of the God who fills your spirit. You are more than flesh and bone. You are a spiritual being, fueled by the Creator God.

It is absolutely amazing how God has used just ordinary people to spread his love and his light to millions upon millions.

He used a fisherman to act as a trustworthy disciple. He turned Saul’s (transformed to Paul) life around to proclaim his utmost power. He used a small, feeble child in David, to lead a nation as a king. And, he can use you too!

Let’s be willing and open for the LORD of hosts to use us today – and throughout our lives. It’s easy to feel lowly with hundreds of people around us skyrocketing to great fame.

But remember and take heart that God empowers the lowly to move mountains for him!

Because we know that this extraordinary day is just ahead, we pray for you all the time – pray that our God will make you fit for what he’s called you to be, pray that he’ll fill your good ideas and acts of faith with his own energy so that it all amounts to something. If your life honors the name of Jesus, he will honor you. Grace is behind and through all of this, our God giving himself freely, the Master, Jesus Christ, giving himself freely. – 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

Tears, Grief and Joy – Present With The LORD

_Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning._ Psalm 30_5Grief. It feels like a metal weighted door. You try to hold the door wide open – for you need the sunlight to flood your senses; but, the cold door just weighs your arms down.

You strain and grunt with all you have to keep the door open. But it closes with a deep – thud – and leaves you in the darkness of a sterile dungeon with quivering arms.

Losing a well-loved person is difficult. You think of their laughs, smiles and long to hear their voice – just once more. But the absence of that human from this world is stinging.

A deep feeling of loss swims through your veins and sweeps over your soul. Oh, to feel that embrace once more or to see that smile. You’d give anything.

However, it’s important to remember not to wallow in grief. In Christ, we have an everlasting life that cannot be matched by another.

Absent from the body and present with the Christ. That reality is a sparkling gem that can offer so much joy and clarity in a time of what seems like bottomless tears.

Through your salty tears, picture that loved one at the feet of the King of Kings! Ears ringing with the melodic voice of the Savior, and skin supple with the moistness of new life.

A fragrant breath in their lungs, they are at peace; and dance in the throne room of the brightest beacon. No more pain, no more fear, no more struggles.

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Psalm 30:5

It’s hard: but, try to dig your feet out of the cement of sadness that hinders you from moving forward. Let those tears transform into strength. Allow the words of our Creator encourage and dry your eyes today. He went before you to prepare a place for you (John 14:2).

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:5

Written in remembrance of my grandmother, Billie Rose Willingham – and the hope that we shall see each other again in the presence of the LORD.

Seeking His Face For Genuine Understanding

For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. – 1 Corinthians 1_25We need an awakening – a massive arising of soldiers suited up and prepared for the battle at hand. It is obvious; darkness covers our land – a deep darkness. It’s time for the children of faith to stand up and be counted.

No longer can we hide in the shadows of complacency and humdrumness. That is not our charge as children of the light. Our mantle is one of deep urgency to spread the light of Christ upon this earth.

How have we fallen so far away from our roots? We have disengaged from the deep heritages where our leaders made bold statements of solid faith. Eyes, once locked on the truths written in the Bible, these granules of wisdom have been traded for human knowledge.

It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”- 1 Corinthians 1:30, 31

Oh, may we be wise in the eyes of the LORD; and seek his face when we need genuine understanding.

This world can teach us nothing of value. Instead of the richness in Christ, it will hand you imitation gold and silver – utterly useless.

Christ gives you the genuine.

When the world’s facade fades, he hands you the nonperishable bread of life. And, if you ask – he grants you his overflowing wisdom.

For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. – 1 Corinthians 1:25

Let’s lift up our voices in one accord and cry out to Jesus for the wisdom that trumps mortal knowledge. We must pray that eyes and ears are opened across the country – and a true yearning for the truth is distributed throughout every beating heart.

May minds once again rest in the blessed assurance of Christ’s security and provision. May we trust in his victory that has already been claimed by his blood sacrifice and resurrection!

May I Not Conceal Your Love And Your Faithfulness

I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help.We shouldn’t hide it – that light that beams from within our souls. Our hearts are not meant to be camouflage canisters, tucked away for safekeeping. They are made to palpitate in severity for the King of Kings.

Let the world see your life chamber beat with robust rhythms. Don’t quench that love that flows from the sparkle in your eyes and the crevices of your smile. You make a difference when you radiate Christ.

I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help. I do not conceal your love and your faithfulness from the great assembly. – Psalm 40:10

We are beckoned to share the luminous blessing of our salvation. How could we hide such a rich treasure that makes our souls soar and dead bodies come to life?

Broken and alone, this world is seeking. People are searching for the light your body houses – the light that scorches isolation, fear and discouragement. You carry a powerful light, sweet child of God! You carry the truth that will cut through falsehood.

You will meet resistance. Remember the darkness cannot tolerate the light for in its presence, it dissipates. Hold fast – and stand firm. The steadfast heart is rewarded with crowns of splendor.

Fasten your feet to the bedrock of your Savior’s loyalty. Like a knight dressed in solid silver, hold up that sword and shield in courage. Shout in clarity the battle cry of strength and victory.

Do not be ashamed of the Gospel, dear one. Evil will try to make you feel afraid and humiliated of your moral stances – but resist this vile untruth. Focus on the sweet fruit from the vine of the LORD.

The vine always provides the life sustaining nutrients in order to sustain the plant. Drink up the provision of the King. His nourishment will equip you for every challenge you may face!

That I May Gain Christ!

For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good. – Psalm 107_9.jpgWe all enjoy accolades and the allure of the glittering, glowing lights of grandeur. Like moths we circle the beams of carnality. We reach for that golden hoop that will somehow satisfy that fleshly taste for fulfillment.

But will clutching that sparkly prize fully gratify?

We can bathe in the riches of this world and dine on the fanciest meals of lobster and caviar; however, these temporary things will only make us happy for a time.

Eventually the shine will rust and our hearts will grow restless once again – looking for something bigger, greater and fancier to satisfy!

But, oh, to feed on the manna from on high!

That is the lasting serum that will stick to your stomach and bones. In comparison to the treasures from heaven, worldly things are just rubbish. They are simply leftovers, good for nothing.

I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage that I may gain Christ. – Philippians 3:8

Things of this world – fancy cars, luxury boxes at sporting events, endless riches and high-rise condos mean nothing when thinking of the glory and grandeur of heaven.

All that matters is if we know Christ. For if we have that relationship, we are rich beyond compare. Emulating his fruits and drinking from his overflowing fountain of life is life altering.

Break free from the desire of carnal possessions. Strive sweet seeker – for the godly, the supernatural. There you will find peace and fulfillment. Do not trust in manmade trinkets, but trust in the promises of the Most High.

For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good. – Psalm 107:9
