Yoga – 30 Day Challenge (Day 1)

Hello and welcome to Day 1 of our Yoga 30 Day challenge. I got this lovely video from Pop Sugar Fitness. I would highly recommend this YouTube channel, if you are looking for some great workouts.

This one is about 30 minutes in length and it is an all-over body workout. So, it’s a nice Vinyassa flow – but simple enough for beginners. Hope you enjoy this video. Let me know how you’d like it with a comment below.

Will be doing this yoga sequence tonight after work. Namaste! Stick to it, ladies.

Yoga – 30 Day Challenge

Holidays mean – cookies, cakes and candy (even if they are gluten free) they can make you sluggish and help those pounds pack on. I am a little late to the New Year’s resolution making; but, here is my challenge to myself: 30 days of yoga!

For those of you that work long hours like me, this is really going to be difficult; but, we can do it. Aim for about a 20-25 minute video a day. I will post my videos daily, on this blog (so you can do those!)

Let’s pump ourselves back into shape. Yoga is the perfect exercise for stress, flexibility and weight loss. You can do this from your apartment or house. All you need is a yoga mat. Super easy. Wake up 30 minutes early every morning – and get to work.

Start today with this awesome video: (and, we will officially start the challenge tomorrow!)

Yoga Stretches For The Desk Worker

desk jobI sit at a desk for a majority of the day. Eyes glued to the computer, the typical U.S. adult is sedentary for 60 percent of their waking hours and sits for an average of six hours per day. What? This can’t be good.

Sitting too much can be perilous for your health. It increases the chances for heart disease, decreases enzymes that burn fat and, in the end, can lead to a shorter life.

But, no worries, you can change these factors – you can turn back the clock. Just focus on your health and try not to sit too long in the day.

Tips: Take a 15 minute walk during the work day, stand at your desk for a portion of the day, stand during meetings, walk to lunch and do some hip opening stretches.

I would do these stretches in addition to some of the tips above.  I have found these particular yoga stretches very effective. They are hip openers that stretch out my body and relieve the tension built up during the day.

Wide-Legged Forward Bend Pose

This is a great stretch to alleviate back pain during the work day. Read here on how to get into the proper pose. This move stretches the groins, hamstrings and hips. It calms the mind and decompresses the spine. It is said to relieve fatigue, mild depression and anxiety.

Double Pigeon Pose

This is an intense hip opener. It will relieve tension, anxiety and stress. Hold this pose for 5 long breaths. Click here to see how to get into the pose properly.

Pigeon Pose

This is my absolute favorite yoga pose. No matter how tight my hips feel – this is sure to stretch them out. Make sure you align your body properly. This will help relieve low back pain and stiffness.  I have also found that done regularly with the right breathing technique this will shrink your hips.

Bunny Yoga and Breathing

ImageWell, not really bunnies, but bunny drawings. Ran across this cute little illustrated morning yoga routine sequence and had to try the sequence. Loved it.

This is a great way to start any morning. I would recommend trying this cute sequence below – repeat it about 6 times. You will be sure to feel this in your legs and arms.

Also this is a perfect thing to do before shuffling off to work. I know how hard it is to fit in that morning workout. Sometimes it’s impossible.

However, this yoga sequence will take you about 10 -15 minutes in the morning (depending on how long you hold each pose.) And it will open your lungs and start your breathing pattern for the day off on a good note.

So often – we hold our breath in stressful situations (my problem!). Doing yoga as a daily workout, even if it is just 10 minutes, helps that stress in your chest and reminds you to fill up your lungs with good, clean, deep air.

Breathing can aid in numerous things – it detoxifies, releases tension, relaxes the mind and brings clarity, relieves emotional problems, massages your organs, strengthens the immune systems and much more.
